Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Fighters Table

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of heroes, and a exciting storyline including angels, evil spirits, and dark forces expanding in strength within the urban setting.

Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.

What Defines the Combat Party

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.

Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might seem out of place, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the group knows exactly where to go next after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, attacking the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.

The antagonist then cleared his debts and fled to a secure base in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each character has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants retribution.
  • Kattigan has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty place.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to execute the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could enable the team access locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to The savior for his deliverance and will now accompany him anywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that govern the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the clan.

This means them little choice but to head to the remote area in quest for Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the latest episode’s follow-up content, we learn that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Seekers and Schemers parties.

Fans can look forward to discovering which players will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
