The Gaming Giant Recruits Popular Battle Royale Producer to Revitalize Troubled Hero Shooter Project Ethos
2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the upcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Leadership Change Comes After Poor Reception
The new appointee assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's underwhelming unveiling last fall.
On Wednesday, the company's top executive David Ismailer informed staff about this strategic move through an internal memo, which emphasized that playtesting had revealed the need for a more defined vision.
Ismailer expressed that the team is now overhauling Project Ethos with a revised focus, aiming to address gamer demands.
A Pattern of Key Acquisitions
This announcement mirrors a comparable action taken by the publisher in the summer, when they recruited an industry veteran from the Diablo team to assist with the beloved franchise development group.
Here is the complete text from the president's memo:
Dear Team—
I know you all just wrapped up your gathering - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the recent updates. Previously I shared you all a update, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and innovative developers we have had the opportunity to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that relationship to persist.”
With your dedication and flexibility, especially over the last year, you repeatedly show that.
The player input from last autumn’s the game playtest was revealing. It confirmed the promise of a action-packed game but indicated we still had refinements needed. It revealed the necessity for a sharper vision.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the input to consideration and overhauled the title with a refreshed direction - one that’s positioned to deliver on its ambition to our players.
The trust in this project increases every day. To advance the remarkable advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome the new hire as the latest Studio Head of 31st Union. Following several months of discussions, Ben comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.
Ben’s leadership and background in the competitive gaming genre is extensive, having devoted the last 15 years producing and managing some of the most recognizable franchises in gaming, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, Apex Legends.
Let’s together in greeting him soon. We are all eager to continue seeing the progress of Project ETHOS in the time to follow.
David
Experience of the New Head
The appointee presently serves in the role of executive producer and head of production at the renowned studio for Apex Legends. He previously was employed at major gaming companies in diverse production roles on the iconic franchise games, and, prior to that, had stints at other industry leaders.
Game Information and Vision
Project Ethos was revealed in last year in conjunction with a early access event. Then, 31st Union described the game as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an exciting evolution on the genre."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in real-time to fit your unique tactics," the game's pitch reads. "Face the competition with unique powers, challenges, and challenges that shift every match. Do you withdraw carefully with your collected items? Or take a risk, gamble everything, and pray your team can secure victory? The option is yours."
Project Ethos lacks an announced release date or consoles, but fans can look forward to further news as creation progresses.
